Florida requires insurance companies to offer discounts for construction features that reduce wind damage. A wind mitigation inspection, documented on the state form OIR-B1-1802, is how those credits get applied to your policy. It is an insurance form, not a full home inspection.

What we look at

  • Roof covering and roof shape — material, permits, and whether the shape qualifies for a credit
  • Underlayment — we check what was used, such as peel-and-stick, double-layer, or synthetics
  • Nail pattern — how the decking is attached to the truss
  • Roof-to-wall connection — we go into the attic to see where the truss or rafter meets the exterior wall. What we find there may be clips or straps, but it may also be toenails or another connector that does not qualify for a credit. We document what is actually there.
  • Opening protection — windows, doors, skylights, and garage doors, and whether they are rated

What the inspector needs access to

  • Exterior and roof
  • Attic access, for the roof-to-wall connection, underlayment, and the nail pattern that attaches the decking to the truss
  • Windows and doors, including garage doors

A wind mitigation inspection reports only on the wind-resistive features on the OIR-B1-1802 form. If you are buying a home, you want a full home inspection as well.

Bundle and save

Book wind mitigation together with a four point inspection, or with a four point and a roof certification, at the same time and save. The inspections have to be booked together for the same visit for the savings to apply. Call for current rates.
